Culturally Based Education for Native American Students

A recently released (2003) research review, A Review of the Research Literature on the Influences of Culturally Based Education on the Academic Performance of Native American Students, examines existing research on the link between culturally based education (CBE) and academic performance for native students. The overall contract from the USDOED is managed by the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory and conducted by a national coalition of experts, including CREDE affiliates. Authors of this review are William Demmert, Jr., and John Towner, both of Western Washington University. The review examines existing research, discusses features of authentic CBE, and will be used to examine the feasibility of designing a national experimental study on CBE and native students.
